Most patients who are considering a brow lift are between 40 and 70 years of age, and have a strong desire to improve the appearance of eyelids that have begun to sag, a drooping brow, or wrinkles and lines that have begun to form on the forehead. It is very important that patients have realistic expectations of what the procedure can accomplish. Dr. Newman will patiently answer all of your questions during your consultation, and will only recommend a brow lift if he believes it is right for you.

The Procedure

In general, a brow lift involves pulling the skin upward. In addition, excess tissue is removed and underlying muscles may be tightened. In most cases, Dr. Newman can begin forehead lift surgery by making an incision that starts at ear level and extends across the scalp.

He takes care to make the incision behind your hairline so that the scar will not be visible. Working through this incision, Dr. Newman can delicately lift the skin of the forehead, remove excess tissue, and reposition the muscles of the forehead. He may also elevate the eyebrows to create a smoother, more youthful appearance. After making the necessary refinements, Dr. Newman will close the incision with sutures.

Depending on your case, he may cover the incision with gauze and wrap your head in a protective bandage. You can further enhance the results of a brow lift by combining the surgery with other facial treatments such as facelift, rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, and eyelid surgery. After about a week of rest, most patients are able to return to work.

Recovering From a Brow Lift

Following a brow lift Fairfield County patients may feel numbness or discomfort around the incision. These effects are temporary, and can be managed with prescription medication.

Dr. Newman will recommend that you keep your head elevated for a few days after surgery in order to minimize swelling. Any swelling you experience should subside within a few weeks. You will need to return to our office one or two days after your brow lift to have any bandages removed. After about a week of rest, most patients are able to return to work. However, vigorous physical activity should be avoided for a month after a forehead lift. Bruising and swelling typically subside after several weeks.
