In our last blog post, we discussed why some women cant eliminate post-pregnancy abdominal bulges and how a mommy makeover may be a good option. In this post, Dr. Fredric Newman discusses the timing of your mommy makeover.
Occasionally, women will come into my office seeking a mommy makeover within a year or two of their final pregnancy. However, I typically see women who have waited a longer period of time. One of our main concerns with a woman who is only a year or two out from her last pregnancy is that she has a one-year-old or two-year-old child at home. These women are not necessarily the best candidates for surgery because they will not be able to pick up their children in the weeks following the procedure. We do have some cases where we perform a mommy makeover for a relatively new mother, but those women are fortunate enough to have someone at home to help out for a several weeks during the recovery period.
Patients who have had breast augmentation surgery or a breast lift will need to limit the use of their arms for about a week. In addition, women should not lift children or heavy objects during the first two weeks of recovery. Though my mommy makeover patients are often walking around the day after surgery, they should not expect to return to full normal activity until a month after the procedure and that timeline will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the surgery.
